# Why does the SVG from ChatGPT have a PNG inside?

> Because ChatGPT does not trace images. Asked to turn a logo into an SVG, it may write a file that wraps your original pixels in SVG tags, or draw a rough version by hand. The first is still a picture: it blurs when enlarged and printers reject it. The second looks different from your logo. A tracer turns the pixels into real shapes.

## How can I tell?

- The SVG is about as large as the PNG, or larger.
- In Illustrator, Figma or Inkscape the logo is one image you cannot select shapes in.
- Opened in a text editor, it contains `<image` and `data:image/png;base64`.
- Or drop it on the [SVG checker](https://svgproof.com/svg-checker): it says so in one line, in your browser.

## What about the SVG it draws by hand?

When ChatGPT writes the paths itself, it builds the logo from a handful of circles, curves and a font, guessed from what the image shows. The result is a real vector, but of a different logo: proportions shift, details go, and the letters are live text in a font your printer may not have.

## How do I get a real vector of the same logo?

1. Download the image ChatGPT made (the PNG, not its SVG).
2. Drop it on the [ChatGPT logo to SVG](https://svgproof.com/chatgpt-logo-to-svg) page and compare the vector with the original, zoomed in.
3. Download it as SVG, EPS, AI and PDF.

Converting, comparing and editing are free and need no account; a PNG up to 512 px is free too. The SVG and full-size PNG of one logo cost one credit ($10 buys 25).

## When is SVGProof the wrong tool?

- A new design: a tracer keeps the logo you have. To change it, prompt the generator again or work with a designer.
- Photos and painterly art. They have no clean shapes to find, so we refuse them instead of returning thousands of blobs. A photo needs a different tool or a designer.

## Questions

### Can ChatGPT trace it properly?

Not on its own. You can connect SVGProof to ChatGPT ([how](https://svgproof.com/docs/mcp)): it then sends the image to our engine and gives you a traced SVG back, paid from the same credits as the website.

### Do Midjourney and Gemini do the same?

They make raster images only (PNG, WEBP or JPEG), so there is no SVG to download from them. Convert their images the same way: [Midjourney](https://svgproof.com/midjourney-logo-to-vector), [Gemini](https://svgproof.com/gemini-logo-to-svg).
