# How do I turn a PNG logo into an SVG for Cricut?

> Convert the PNG into a real vector, then prepare it for cutting before you download: remove the background so the machine does not cut a rectangle, and merge or limit the colors so each color is one layer of vinyl. Upload the SVG in Cricut Design Space, check the layers, and cut. A flat logo, AI-made or not, takes a few minutes.

Example on this page: Velara (AI render, 1536 px): 1536 × 1024 px in, 338 nodes in 7 paths out, traced in 295 ms (measured by the engine).

## Why not upload the PNG?

Design Space can trace a PNG, but only as one silhouette per upload, and soft edges or JPEG noise turn into jagged cut lines. An SVG made of shapes keeps each color as its own layer with smooth outlines, at any size.

## How do I prepare the logo?

1. Drop the PNG or JPG on the [converter](https://svgproof.com/ai-logo-to-svg). PNG, JPG or WEBP up to 5 MB and 17 megapixels (8192 px on a side); larger images are scaled to 4 megapixels first.
2. Remove the background, so it is not cut as a rectangle around the logo.
3. Merge near-duplicate colors, or set a color limit. AI logos often carry a dozen shades of one color, and every color is a layer to cut and weed.
4. Snap the colors to your vinyl if you know them, so the preview matches what you will cut.
5. Compare the vector with your image zoomed in, then download the SVG (one credit).

Converting, comparing and editing are free and need no account; a PNG up to 512 px is free too. The SVG and full-size PNG of one logo cost one credit ($10 buys 25).

## How do I open it in Design Space?

1. Choose Upload, then Upload Image, and pick the SVG.
2. Each color arrives as its own layer. Hide any layer you do not want to cut before you make it.
3. For one color only, select all layers and Weld them into one shape.
4. For a sticker, Flatten the layers and use Print Then Cut.

## Does it work for Silhouette?

Yes, if your Silhouette Studio opens SVG: Designer Edition and up do, the free Basic Edition does not. SVGProof does not export DXF, so on Basic Edition you would trace the image in Silhouette Studio itself.

## When is SVGProof the wrong tool?

- Single-line drawing or engraving with a pen or scoring tool: our shapes are filled outlines, not one center line.
- Tiny text and hairline details: they trace, but they are hard to cut and weed in vinyl. Enlarge the logo or simplify it first.
- Photos and painterly art. They have no clean shapes to find, so we refuse them instead of returning thousands of blobs. A photo needs a different tool or a designer.

## Questions

### Will the layers overlap?

Shapes of different colors meet edge to edge, and some continue under the color above, the way a designer layers a logo. A mode that cuts every color as a separate piece with no overlap is in development.

### Is my logo stored?

Your image is traced in memory on our server and deleted about 30 minutes after you last use it. It is not saved to permanent storage, backups or logs, and is used only to convert it: we keep technical totals, such as processing times, never the image.
