What is in the DXF?
- Closed outlines (polylines) for every shape, with holes as their own outlines, so a laser or cutter follows them directly.
- One layer per color, named in paint order with the color code (for example
01_1A2B3C): set cut, score or engrave per layer, or hide one. - Thin parts the trace draws as lines are open centerlines on a separate
_LINESlayer. - Curves are converted into short straight segments within 0.02 mm, which every DXF reader accepts. Units are millimetres, 100 mm on the long side: scale it to your size in the software.
- AutoCAD R12 format, the version laser, CNC, sign and CAD software reads most reliably.
How do I convert a PNG to DXF?
- Drop the logo on this page (or paste it). PNG, JPG or WEBP up to 5 MB and 17 megapixels (8192 px on a side); larger images are scaled to 4 megapixels first.
- Compare the vector with your image in the editor, zoomed in. Remove the background, merge near-duplicate colors or snap them to your brand colors if you need to.
- Choose DXF in the download menu (one credit) and open it in your laser, CNC or CAD software.
Do colors overlap in the DXF?
They stack the way they do in the SVG: a color can continue under the color above it, as a designer layers a logo. For a one-color cut or engrave this does not matter. For cutting each color as a separate piece, use only the layers you need, or merge colors in the editor before you download; a mode that removes the overlap is in development.
Does it work from a JPG?
Yes: JPG to DXF works the same way, and JPEG compression blocks are cleaned up before the trace. See JPG to SVG.
When is SVGProof the wrong tool?
- Photos for laser engraving. Engrave a photo as an image (dithered) in your laser software; a traced photo is thousands of blobs.
- Single-line drawings for a pen plotter or V-bit: we trace filled outlines, not one center line per stroke.
Questions
Which programs open the DXF?
Laser software such as LightBurn, Silhouette Studio (Basic Edition included), Inkscape, Fusion, AutoCAD, CorelDRAW and most CNC and sign programs. They all read AutoCAD R12 DXF.
Is it free?
Converting, comparing and editing are free and need no account; a PNG up to 512 px is free too. The SVG and full-size PNG of one logo cost one credit ($10 buys 25).
Is my image stored?
Your image is traced in memory on our server and deleted about 30 minutes after you last use it. It is not saved to permanent storage, backups or logs, and is used only to convert it: we keep technical totals, such as processing times, never the image.
